The International Community Garden
The International Community Garden provides garden plots for refugee immigrant families from Africa and Eastern Europe. Families work together raising food; building a sense of community and ties to the land, while reducing their weekly grocer bills.
Brookside Congregational Church provides the land and irrigation water, The International Institute of NH provides the gardeners.
This past spring the garden was enlarged by a team of oxen. This was arranged by the International Garden Coordinator, Dr. Teena Hayden.
Rubia's Sewing Confidence Program
Our classes enable refugee women to develop skills that lay a foundation for social and financial self-sufficiency as they settle into their new home.
Sewing Confidence provides a unique blend of instruction in machine and hand sewing techniques, applied English language and literacy and micro-enterprise development. Women currently in the program are already creating a line of products to be sold through local retail outlets. This fall, they proudly made their first sale of reusable gift bags to Real Green Goods in Concord, NH!
Launched in the spring of 2009 with grants from the Women’s Fund of NH and Bridgebuilders Foundation, Sewing Confidence depends on private contributions to sustain and expand our programs. Click here to learn more about the Sewing Confidence.
